ONE of the world's biggest investment banks has today said that it will file for bankruptcy in a move that will spread further unease about the state of global economies.

American financial giant Lehman Brothers is to file a petition under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code. The move usually allows companies to reorganise their contractual and debt obligations under the supervision of a bankruptcy court.

It follows the collapse of talks to secure a rescue deal for Lehman Brothers, one of Wall Street's oldest investment banks.

UK bank Barclays admitted that it had considered a bid for the company but decided not to proceed because it would not have been in the best interests of shareholders.

Lehman has suffered billions of dollars worth of losses in the US mortgage markets and was unable to find an investment partner to throw it a lifeline.

The firm said it was still pursuing the sale of its broker-dealer operations, as well as its investment management division.

Another subsidiary, Lehman Brothers Asset Management, will also not be subject to the petition.

Lehman said in a statement: "The board of directors of Lehman Brothers Holdings International authorised the filing of the Chapter 11 petition in order to protect its assets and maximise value."

The group racked up a third quarter net loss of $3.9 billion (£2.2bn) after a $7bn (£3.9bn) hit from commercial property and sub-prime mortgage losses.

Lehman's share price tumbled 90 per cent last week in the wake of its poor third-quarter results and amid investor concerns that the battered bank was running out of options to raise capital.

In the UK, Lehman employs staff at its regional headquarters in Canary Wharf, London, as well as its office in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Globally, the group has around 25,000 staff.

As Lehman Brothers edged towards collapse, US and foreign banks announced plans to put in place a $70bn (£39bn) lifeboat credit fund to help shore up financial markets. The consortium includes Barclays, Bank of America, Citibank and Credit Suisse.

They have agreed to create a "collateralised borrowing facility" of $70bn, with each bank contributing $7bn (£3.9bn) to help ease access to credit.

Barclays said it ruled out a Lehman Brothers bid as not being in shareholders' interest.

In a brief statement, the bank said: "We confirm that Barclays considered a combination with Lehman Brothers and did not proceed because it was not possible to conclude a transaction in the best interests of Barclays shareholders."

In a separate move to help shore up the financial markets, Bank of America has announced a 50 billion US dollar (£28bn) deal to buy Wall Street giant Merrill Lynch, which has also been stung by the credit crunch.

The acquisition follows negotiations between the firms and the US Government, which was eager to minimise the damage from the Lehman fallout.

wow i didn't know how absobloodylutely awesome warhammer 40k dawn of war was. Thanks to Clarence the other time he told me to try out soulstorm so i installed the game on my pc. I first tried Tau cause somehow that race reminds me of purity and worship of somesort like it.
Oh please someone please don't get me into playing the table top warhammer or i'm gonna spend a few thousands on games workshop.. ok thats all. warhammer pwns starcraft2!

I just found a new job just days back and uh it was Waikiat who introed it to me. So the place is Hotel intercontinental. I got myself working at the banquet where you do waiter stuff and serving guest during vip meetings or wedding dinner. i would say this job is great for starters who knows shit about waiter jobs and i'm on of them.
i swear and thought i was gonna get a helluva shitload fucks from the managers but all thanks to waikiat. He taught me stuffs and what not to do in that line.

So my first day i met this guy called Tamil. hahas he was from malaysia and studying in singapore. quite a friendly guy jsut that he may be an ass sometimes but he taught me some stuff about work. And it is not to slack for fuck's sake.

So my first day of work was simple. Flip over tables, opening partition walls and shifting much of the hotel furnitures around. much more of a coolie job on the first day. hell comes in on the 2nd day of job.
i come to realize there'll be a VIP meeting somewhere on that night and i was to serve them dishes in some orderly manner. HOLY SHIT I ALMOST SHAT MY TROUSERS.
and tamil told me to relax cause its not gonna be tough. So i told myself. Who cares vip or what not. There still humans afterall.

So yeah and then i got throught the day without any serious mistakes. So here's the funny part. On the 3rd day of my job. its the first time i have.

1) Serve a 10 table fulled with people i don't know.
2) serve a Chinese wedding dinner with 8 course meal.
3) cut and slice fish which i have never done that in my whole damn life.
4) scoop up noodles with 2 spoons and i did with a fork and spoon.

i was fucked up and thankfully those people sitting by the table knew i was a freshman to the hotel and we ended up chatting. so i serve them wine, clear their dishes, drinks and tea refill. i learn all that within a day+. my 4th day will be 2 wedding dinner and there'll be 80 tables <.<

I didn't have much time to blog these days but here's what have been going on for the past few days. Remembered Comex? it was at Suntec city one of the halls i forgot 601-3 and other levels. yeah i was there on the last day with Weisiong, Clarence and his friend and Jon too. Before that we went the the matsuri at vivo city. I heard lots of cosplayers were boycotting this event cause of some insider stuff i wouldn't want to know about. so i was with Clarence, weisiong and Jonathan joined later. We played magic the gathering over at the outdoor theater or what you called it.

A few minutes later Jon sis came along. she looks cool and we did chat a while during lunch at uh long john silver. right after that she left cos she went off for some other stuff she has got to see to. so we headed to comex. Hell lots of stuff and people with all geeks around. lmao

So i dropped by this Toshiba notebook corner just at the entrance of the hall. So i saw a few guys looking at the screen and i come to realize some lads where there playing call of duty 4. So some guy was screaming at the top of his voice, are there any challengers? winners will take home a gaming headset or a razor diamondback mouse. I didn't realise those guys where from BF.nut and they won the wcg08 cod4 finals. or did they? heh.

So i went of and challenged one of the guys. I swear i have never played cod4 before. So i tried my best, for someone who has experience from Unreal Tournament 2004, to take on that clan dude. But anyway i lost with 45pts to 55pts to that fella. Wtf man, he took out his jacket just to challenge me. Just because i was wearing my clan-tee that day. LOL.

Then i realize why i lost to him. he was using the M40A3 sniper rifle 10 round magazine if i remembered. (I have not much knowledge about modern firearms) and i was using the M21 i think. I forgot these are semi automatic rifles, and so, every round i fired i reloaded the gun. ( the reason so cause i was too used to using springfields and bolt action rifles 1 shot 1 kill). and there my opponent was trigger happy killing me with 5-6 rounds. So i think it will be much different if i played cod4 before :P

A 5 part series featuring Ross Kemp in Afghanistan following the 1st Battalion of the British army's Royal Anglian Regiment during their deployment to Afghanistan's Helmand Province from March to August 2007. In preparation for the assignment, Kemp had to participate in military training for personal defence, including use of the SA80 assault rifle. Kemp has a personal interest in the East Anglians, as he is from their recruiting area, and his father served with their predecessor regiment, the Royal Norfolk Regiment, in Cyprus.

Unlike a "traditional" war documentary, the series was firmly positioned by Kemp as being the "soldiers story", focusing on the experiences of the soldiers at home and abroad, and also features the views of their families. With a personal connection with the Vikings, Kemp is an ardent supporter of the men and the mission, and his film makes many criticisms of the situation the soldiers find themselves in.

Unlike what you see in movies where soldiers run around upon enemy fire, in this movie, what you see is what you get in a real war situation. A part during the filming the crew were pinned down by fire from the Taliban forces where kemp was in the near face of death with bullets passing within inches. This film is certainly worth watching for its battle realism and its high definition.

"Its certainly a place these British soldiers wouldn't want to stay for long."

Well some of you might think i'm crazy or just some sick to the shit dude. But i'm telling you, i love dolls as much as i'll love a girl. Miyuki's my first dollfie and i got her from some friend who does imports of goods to Singapore. I don't know why. But i'm so in love with my doll :D I'm really absobloodylutely delighted to have her with me all this while. I wished to take her out more often and probably buy more accessories and clothes. Its sure going to be an expensive hobby and would definitely be more than playing the warhammer table top pieces.

Well i started work just yesterday at Hotel Intercon at Bugis. It was Wi Kiat who inteoduced the job to me. so were working some sort along together at the same shift. Well i hope at least. Its holiday for me now so there's noting much to do at home to just rot away infront of the pc so i'd might as well get myself a job. neway i still owe clarence some cash and my classmate, siti too. So i guess getting a job would be a wise idea to pay them back on time or else i'll be so bloody guity. I like this job. Meeting new mates and i'm getting used to it so working longer hours shouldn't be a problem.

I just watched blood diamond just a few moments ago. Set from the true story of how diamonds are extracted by any means through slavery has brought my attention to accepting the fact that chaos and slavery still exist in the 1990s. Its today that i realise, living in a 1st world nation, its hard to accept that people of the 3rd world country are suffering in silence until mercenaries and reporters actually got footage of whats been happening all along. Take burma for example. Monks are murdered by the country's military and they demand human rights for them. Well i think we should all stand together in an effort to save these countries from such conflicts. Lucky for today, much of these conflicts are controlled. However, not all are. I don't know why, whenever i'll see any african or blacks, i will tend to pity them somehow. I do not look down on them. Or some reason calling them niggers. I guess some of us should start to respect them.
